He's hit the grid with lightcycles in Tron: Legacy, the skies with Super Hornets in Top Gun: Maverick, and the asphalt with F1 cars in, er, F1: The Movie. Next up, as we first reported back in April, adrenaline junkie/filmmaker extraordinaire Joseph Kosinski is looking to hit the streets of Vice City with (presumably) a Ferrari Daytona in a fresh take on classic cop show — and, in 2006, Michael Mann crime drama — Miami Vice. And now, thanks to Variety, we know exactly when we can expect the action man's latest thrill-ride to hit our screens.
Per the trade's reporting, Kosinski's movie — penned by Nightcrawler writer-director Dan Gilroy — is set to hit cinemas on 6 August, 2027, teeing up a Barbenheimer worthy double-header with *ahem* Bluey: The Movie. Bluey Vice, anyone? Anyone? Anyway, where were we? Yes, so Joseph Kosinski's Miami Vice is lining up to continue the high-octane auteur's hot streak at the summer box office with a movie that, per the description provided to Variety, "explores the glamour and corruption of mid-80’s Miami," taking its plot and stylistic cues from the pilot episode and first season of Anthony Yerkovich's original neon-drenched, needledrop-filled show.

What's more, while we don't yet know who will play buddy-cop duo Detectives James Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs — or their new equivalents — here, we do know that casting on Kosinski's movie is already underway. And with cameras, IMAX cameras no less, set to roll on this one next year, Miami Vice's latest incarnation will be with us faster than you can say, "Is it socially acceptable again yet to wear a linen suit? Or how about a lovely pastel shirt?" (The answers to which are, of course, "It actually never was and never will be.") Alexa, play 'In The Air Tonight' and order us some black-out shades…
